My Life: A Collage of Text
I was born in northern Indiana.
I have two brothers. I'm the middle child.
In high school, I worked at a hospital and completed a year-long internship for students pursuing medical careers. I went to college (in Indiana) and studied medicine for three years to be a medical doctor.
Right before I started applying to medical school, I decided I wanted to be a writer, so I changed my major. I studied English, literature, and creative writing. I learned about poetry. I went to graduate school and studied writing for two years.
I got married.
I was a college English instructor for three years and then I applied to a PhD program in Ohio. I completed a PhD in rhetoric and writing studies and a graduate certificate in women's, gender, and sexuality studies.
I got a job as a professor in Indiana. After five years in Ohio, we moved back to Indiana.
